Penn University Wins its 4th consecutive GEC Championship Title

PHILADELPHIA, PA(SMI-GLOBAL-WOMEN-SPORTS-UNIVERSITY- 03.22-23, 2025)-The Penn University women's gymnastic team won its 4th consecutive GEC Championship crown after winning the 2025 GEC tournament with an overall team score 195.700, and scoring the highest score in three of the four rotations at The Palestra, University of Pennsylvania.

The Quakers win the 2025 GEC title outscoring 7-other teams with Yale University finishing runner-up (2nd Place, 194.125), University of Bridgeport ( 3rd Place , 193.150), in the second session while William & Mary took fourth place with 192.975,   with a first place finish in the first session, Cornell (5th Place, 192.925), Brown University (6th place,192.875), West Chester (7th Place, 192.275) & Southern CT (8th , 191.175).


Vaults Competition:

Skyler Kerico won the Vaults with a first place with 9.925 and Marissa Lassiter took 2nd place with 9.875 representing Penn University.

Lola Sepulveda and Nova Staruk from University of Bridgeport shared third place with each scoring 9.800.  


Second Session Competed: Penn U. , Yale, Brown, & U. Bridgeport

Uneven Bars Competition:

Skyelar Kerico (Penn U.) won scoring 9.900 for her second rotation win in the tournament. 

Sophia Paris (Penn U.) and Maya Davis (Brown University) shared 2nd place with the score 9.825.And Zara Gazdak (Penn U. ) and Lauren Luu( Yale ) shared 4th place with 9.800.


In the Beam competition, Jordan Barrow, Manama Fofana and Skyelar Kerico 
took the first three spot in the standings. Barrow won the rotation with 9.875 while Fofana and Kerico shared second place with 9.850 score.

Olivia Imbarlina (Bridgeport U.) took 4rd place with 9.800 and Yale 's Hana Strause finished in 5th place with 9.775.


Floor Exercise Competition: Maya Davis won the rotation with score of 9.900 while Julia Bedell (Brown), Marissa Lassiter(Penn U.), Ellie Kearns(Yale),  Chloe DeJoy(Yale), and Ella Tashjian(Yale) shared second place with the 9.800 score. 

In the All Around individual score, Skyelar Kerico (Penn, 39.425), Ellie Kearns (Yale, 38.725),  and Abigail Kenney (Bridgeport, 37.550).

 

In the First Session:Wiliam & Mary (192.975), Cornell U.(192.925),
West Chester U. (192.275) & Southern SCSU (191.175).


Vaults: Sydney Beers (Cornell U.) won the rotation with 9.850 while Hannah Burke(9.800), Melissa Gao (9.775) & Sally Wood(9.750) from William & Mary finished in 2nd, 3rd & 4th place. 

Uneven Bars:
Caroline Blatchford and Catherine Bar took first and 2nd place with Blatchford winning the rotation with 9.850, and Bare scoring 9.775.
Morgen Shambo scored 9.750 for 3rd place while Melina Ringas took 4th with 9.700 score.


Balance Beams: 

Macarthy Keane and EmmaGrace Kelly shared first place with 9.850 score each while Melanie Faulkner scored 9.800 for 3rd place and Natalia Tehrani grabbed 4fourth place with 9.750 score.

Floor Exercise:

Cornell took the first three spots with Addy Rothstein and Sydney Beers sharing first place with 9.875 score while team-mate Cami Whitaker (Cornell) and Libby
Allen (SCSU) shared 3rd place with the 9.825 score.


In the All Around Individual competititon:
Sydney Beers from Cornell University won with the score 38.150
Caroline Blatchford and Melissa Gao from William & Mary took 2nd & 3rd place with  Blatchford scoring 29.100 for 2nd and Gao registered 29.000 for 4rd palce in tthe competition.
