NEW YORK, NY (SMI-GLOBAL-SPORTS-UNIVERSITY-MARCH 15-18, 2024)-#1-seed Princeton University women's basketball team defeated Penn University 59-54, in the Ivy Madness semifinal game, with guards Kaitlyn Chen and Madison St Rose combining for 37-points in the attack and Ellie Mitchell registering 12-rebounds that set a new school program record for the Tigers at Levien Gym, Columbia University in NYC.

With the win, Princeton improves to 24-4, Ivy 13-1, advances to the Ivy championship game to face #2-seed & host Columbia Lions who also claimed victory over Harvard 63-61, in the other semifinals to be played Tomorrow March 16, at 5:00pm at Columbia University.

Penn went to the offensive from the start and with the score tie 4-4, the Quakers went in a 10-2, run during a span of 4' minute and led 14-6, with 1:42 remaining in the first period. Stina Almqvist and Mataya Gale combined for 8-points with couple layups and couple jumpers from inside the paint to lead in the attack.

Princeton answered back with a 5-0, run to cut the deficit by 3 and closed-out the first frame 14-11, in favor of Penn.Caitlyn Chen netted couple points with a layup while Madison St Rose hit a triple with time running out in the first period.

In the second period , both teams traded baskets-back-forth the entire frame keeping the score very close within couple points with Penn leading 30-28, at the half.

In the third period and the score tie 36-36, with 3:45 remaining in the frame,  The Tigers went in 6-0, run to lead 42-36, with 2' left in the 3rd frame. Ashley Shea hit a triple and Madison St Rose added 4-points with a jumper and a FT in the attack. 

The Quakers did not back down and kept the game score very close with Simone Sawyer scoring with a layup and Mataya Gayle hitting a triple to closed-put the third 46-42, in favor of Princeton.

In the final frame, both teams battled to the end with The Tigers taking the initiative with 6-2, run to start the final period during a 4' minute span to go in front 52-46, with 5:25' left in the 4th period. Ellie Mitchell led the attack with a jumper and layup while Madison St Rose netted a bucket on a fastbreak from inside the paint.

After Stina Almqvist from Penn scored  3-points with a layup and a FT, Princeton Madison St Rose answered back with a triple and a jumper to extend the lead by 8, and make it 57-49, Tigers with 3:42 remaining in the game. 

The Quaker did not back down and fought back trying to keep the score very close when Jordan Obi netted back-to-back for a total of 5-points with jumper and a triple to cut the deficit by 3 and the the game score 57-54, in favor of Princeton with :52' left in the final period.With the game clock winding-down and season ending on the line for both teams, Penn's Jordan Obi committed two consecutive fouls resulted in two FT of Madison St Rose 
to seal the victory for the Princeton Tigers of 59-54, and advance to the Ivy Madness to face Columbia University.

Princeton were led by  Madison St Rose 19-points, 2-triples & 5-Rebounds. Kailyn Chen scored 18-points 8-19 from the floor while Ellie Mitchell added 6 points and 12-rebounds in the win.
