Photo:PRINCETON WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM WINS THE 2023 IVY LEAGUE TOURNAMENT CROWN

NEW YORK, NY (SMI-GLOBAL-SPORTS-UNIVERSITY MARCH 15-18, 2024)-The Princeton women's basketball team defeated Columbia University 75-58, in the Ivy League tournament championship title game, winning the 2024 Ivy League crown and earning an automatic berth to the NCAA, on Saturday's afternoon game at Levien Gym, Columbia University in New York City.

With the win, the Tigers improve to 11-1, overall in Ivy League tournaments with 10 consecutive wins, five consecutive Ivy League tournament titles but four under head coach Carla Barube and five NCAA automatic bids.

Princeton, Now awaits its opponent and seed when the NCAA selection show is announced Tomorrow March 17, at 8:00pm ET.


Princeton took the offensive initiative from the start with a 11-4, run during the first 5' minute of the first period. Madison St Rose netted couple jumpers, Skye Belker hit a triple from outside the arc, while Che Mweke & Ellie Mitchell scored a jumper each for a total 11-points in the attack. 

Columbia answered back immediately with Kitty Henderson FT and Cecilia Collins hitting a triple from downtown to cut the deficit by 3 and make it 11-8, Princeton with 3:16 left in the first frame.

The Tigers kept the offensive pressure and extended its lead by 9, with 6-0, run within 2' to make it 17-8, in favor of the Tiger with 01:38 remaining in the first period.

The Lions cut the deficit by 5, when Kitty Henderson and Abby Hsu hit back to back triples and closed out the first frame with Princeton leading 19-14.

Abby Shu opened the 2nd period with a triple to make it a 2-point game but the Tigers extended its lead by 8, once again with 9-2, run in span of 5' leading 27-19, with 05:15 left in the half.  Ellie Mitchell and Kaitlyn Chen scored with a jumper and layup while Madison St Rose added a jumper and couple FTs in the run. 

Abby Shu and Cecilia Collins netted their second triples of the game to cut the deficit by 4, but Princeton's guard Kaitlyn Chen and Ellie Mitchell combined for 5-2, run to closed the half 34-27, in favor of the Tigers over Columbia. 

In the third period and after Columbia's guard Cecilia Collins netted her third triple of the night, Princeton went in 10-2, run to take a commanding lead of 46-32, with 3' left in the third frame. Kaitlyn Chen netted four points with couple jumpers while Madison St Rose and Ashley Chea hit back-to-back triples in the attack.

With the Tigers leading 48-36, and 01:44' remaining in the frame, Princeton had another
7-3, run to increased its lead by 16 and closed-out the third period with Princeton leading 55-39, over Columbia. Ashley Chea scored 5-points with a jumper and a triple while Parker Hill added a layup to closed the third frame.

After the third period, Princeton dominated the rest of the fourth period including leading by 19, at one point and  Columbia could not find its way offensively to penetrate Princeton defensive line and the deficit was too high to overcome at the point. 

Princeton were led by  Madison St Rose 18-points & 2-triples.Kailyn Chen scored 17-points and went 7-12 from the lane, Ellie Mitchell added 12 points & 10-rebounds while Ashley Shea contributed with 10-points including 2-triples from outside the arc in the victory.
