Princeton Women's Lacrosse Defeats Yale 19-9, and wins the 2022 Ivy League Crown..!
PRINCETON, NJ (SMI-WOMEN-SPORTS-COLLEGE, MAY 08, 2022)-The Princeton women's lacrosse team who is national ranked #9 by Inside Lacrosse, defeated #23 Yale 19-9, in the final game of the 2022 Ivy League Championship Tournament, claiming its fourth consecutive title and sixth overall during a Sunday's noon game and Mother's day celebration at Sherrerd Field, the Class of 1952 Stadium, Princeton University.
With the win, The Lady Tigers earned an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament as a conference champion, and await for its next opponent to be announced by the NCAA during the selection show later in the evening at 9:00pm E.T.
Yale opened the score very early at 43' seconds through Olivia Markert but Princeton answered back immediately with McKenzie Blake even the score at one 53' second later. Then the Tigers took control of the midfield and with a strong offensive attack outscore Yale 7-2 , the rest of the way with McKenzie adding (2), Grace Tauckus (1), Kari Buonanno(1), Ellie Mueller(1), Kate Mulham(1) and Kyle Sears(1) scoring her 202 goal of her career, setting a new school program record with the first quarter ending 8-3, in favor of Princeton.
In the second quarter, the Tigers picked-up where they left-off and began the second frame firing on all cylinders. They neutralized and shotdown the Bulldog's offensive attack and scored seven(7-0) unanswered goals through Kyla Sears(2), Samantha DeVito(1), Grace Tauckus(2), Nina Montes(1), Blake McKenzie(4), putting the game out of reach with the score 15-3, at the end of the half.
In the third and fourth quarter, Yale tried to start an offensive run but
Princeton closed-out its defensive line neutralizing all offensive attacks and securing the victory of 19-9, and 2022 Ivy League Women's lacrosse title.
The Tigers were led by Kyla Sears(4), Grace Tauckus(4), McKenzie Blake(4), Kari Buonanno(2), Nina Montes(2), Kate Mulham(1), Ellie Mueller(1); Samantha DeVito(1).
