NEW YORK, NY(SMI-WOMEN-GLOBAL-UNIVERSITY-APRIL 06-08, 2024)-Princeton Lacrosse top-scorer McKensie Blake(5), Kari Buonanno (4) & Jami MacDonald (3) combined for 12-goals as the Tigers defeated the Columbia Lions 24-12, in Ivy League play and during a Saturday's afternoon game at Robert K. Kraft Field, in New York City.
With the win, Princeton improves to 7-3, overall & 3-1, in Ivy League competition sharing 2nd place with Harvard behind Yale who are 4-0, in first place in the Ivy Standings.
Princeton went to the offensive from the start and took control the game scoring five consecutive goals for 5-0, lead over Columbia in the first 6' minute of the first period.Samantha Devito opened the scored for 13th goal of the season while Meg Morrisroe (5), Kari Buonanno(9), Grace Tauckus(24th) and Colette Quinn adding her 2nd goal of the season from a free position in the 5-0, run.
After Cecelia Messner scored for the Lions to make it 5-1, The Tigers went in another 5-1, offensive run to closed-out the first period 10-2, over Columbia.
Princeton's attacker & top scorer McKensie Blake scored three consecutive goals her (30, 31, & 32) to make it 8-1, with 05:13 left in the first frame.
Colette Quinn and Grace Tauckus added a goal each in the run while Cecelia Messner discounted for Columbia for 10-2, Princeton over Columbia at the end of the first period.
In the 2nd period, Columbia cut the deficit by 6, with a 4-2, scoring run to make it 12-6, Princeton with 07:39 remaining in the 2nd frame.
Dani Falcone (13), Cecelia Messner(20), Anna Becker(17) and Kate Cunning (5) scored on each in the attack.
Nina Montes and Kari Buonanno (10) scored a goal each from a free position for Princeton while Cecelia Messner added her 21st goal of the season for the Lions to send both teams to the locker-rooms with the Tigers leading 14-7, over Columbia at the half.
In the third period, both teams traded goals back-and-forth for the next 10' minutes but The Tigers added another 3-1, run with Jami MacDonald scoring 2-goals her ( 20 & 21) and Kari Buonanno added her (11) from a free position, closing the third frame with Princeton leading 19-11, over Columbia.
The Tigers dominated the rest of the way with a solid defense and keeping the offensive pressure and ending the fourth period with a 5-1, run to secure the victory of 24-12, over Columbia.
Samantha Devito(14), Kari Buonanno(12), Jami MacDonald(22), Ella Sloan(5) and Nina Montes scored a goal each in the run while Anna Becker discounted for Columbia with her 19th goal of the season.
Princeton were led by McKenzie Blake with 5-goals, Kari Buonanno added 4, and Jami Morrisroe scored three goals. Colette Quinn, Ella Sloan, Grace Tauckus, Samantha Devito and Nina Montes contributed with 2-goal each in the vcitory.
Columbia were led by Cecelia Messner with 5-goals, and Anna Becker and Dani Falcone scored three each in the loss.
