The Violets who received an at-large bid to the NCAA championship tournament since 2018, advances to the Sweet-16, for the first time since 2002, and it's part of the seven out of eight UAA conference athletic universities women's soccer teams to receive a berth for the 2023 NCAA Div III championship tournament.
NYU & Carnegie Mellon both from the UAA conference faced-off in the second round after the Violets claimed a 3-0, victory over Southern Virginia University while the Tartans defeated Washington & Lee University 1-0, in the first round on Friday Nov. 10, in Newark, NJ.
The Violets went to the offensive from the start and on its third counter-attack midfielder Gabriela Funk kicked a long pass to the left-side field to Kelly Ready who during a breakaway evaded a defender and from inside the 18' shot a low right-footed to the opposite goal-post ending in back for the net for her 13th-goal of the season and put NYU 1-0, over Carnegie Mellon at 08:59' mark of the first half.
Both teams traded counter-attacks the rest of the remaining clock-time without any major danger to either goal and the Violets led 1-0, at the half.
In the second half, NYU went to the offensive once again in search of the second goal and they found it 13' minute later through a corner kick executed by Jayla Lee who centered the ball inside the 6-yard box finding Kelly Ready who scored with a soft shot into back of the net for her 14th goal of the season and sealed the victory of 2-0, for the Violets over the Tartans.
With the win, NYU advances to the round of 16, to face fellow UAA member Rochester Institute (UAA) next weekend who defeated Mesericordia University 2-1, in the second round in Rochester, NY.
