NEW YORK, NY(SMI-WOMEN-SPORTS-UNIVERSITY-FEB. 11, 2024)-Forwards Natalie Bruns and Morgan Morrison combined for 30-points in the attack as the Violets overpower Carnegie Mellon 76-54, on Senior Day celebration at Paulson Center, New York University.
With the win, the Violets still undefeated and improve to 22-0, overall season record and 11-0, in UAA with 3-games remaining in the season.
Prior to the game seniors Natalie Bruns, Honor Culpepper & Jordan Janowski were honored for their contributions to the NYU women's basketball program during the last four years.
After the visitors took a 5-0, lead in the first 2' minute of the game, NYU answered with an explosive 21-0, unanswered point run the rest of the period to take a commanding lead of 21-5, at the end of the first frame. Morgan Morrison and Natalie Bruns led the attack with three layups from inside the paint, Megan Bauman hit a triple while Belle Pellecchia added couple layups in the run.
In the 2nd period, the Violets picked-up where they left off with Megan Bauman and Natalie Bruns hitting back-to-back triples to increase its lead by 18, with 7:16 remaining in the second period. NYU kept the pressure and went in another 10-7, scoring spree to send both teams to the locker-rooms with the Violets leading by 21-points (42-21) at the half.
Caroline Pepper, Honor Culpepper and Erica Miller led the attack hitting a trio each from outside the arc while Natalie Bruns added a basket with a jumper to put the game away at the end of the second frame.
In the 3rd & 4th, NYU led as much by 27-points with a solid defense and ferocious offensive attack the rest of the way to secure the victory of 76-54, over Carnegie Mellon.
The Violets outperformed Tartans in the game stats outscoring 25-15, point off turnovers, 40-22, points in the paint, 17-5, Fast break point and 38-14, points from the bench.
NYU were led by Natalie Bruns with 15-points and 12 rebounds.Morgan Morrison added 15-points with 4-rebounds and 7-8 from the floor while Belle Pellecchia contributed with 9-points and 8-rebounds in the win.
In the men's game, NYU also honored its seniors for their contribution to the men's basketball program during a ceremony prior to the start of the game.
Seniors honored were: Jacob Sussman, Michael Savarino, Konrad Kiszka, Hayden Peek,
Spencer Freedman, & Cinque Stephens.
