NJ/NY Gotham FC Loses to Portland Thorns 1-0, on 2021 Challenge Cup Final Rematch…!
Harrison,NJ(SMI-SPORTS,05.30.21)-The NJ/NY FC women soccer club loses to Portland Thorns 1-0, during a Sunday rainy afternoon game- celebrating the Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage month and 2021 Challenge Cup Final rematch at the RedBulls Arena in New Jersey.
A very challeging game Today for the Gotham Ladies who despite the heavy rain and the bad condition of the pitch, played very well during the entire match. Both teams tried to execute counter-attacks through the wings but fell short due to the visibility that was caused by the rain when they reached the opposite goals with the half ending scoreless.
In the second half both teams picked-up where they left-off with more aggressive and organized offensive attacks on trying to open the score first. After numerous back and forth attack from both teams, The Thorns opened the score at the 54' minute - when Meghan Klingenberg during a break-away through the leftside field, ran the ball to the top of the 18' and passed it to Crystal Dunn-who shot a hard left-footed cannon to the upper-left corner out of the reach of Gotham's goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan who flew unsuccessfully for the 1-0 and sealing the victory for the visitors.
With the loss Today the Gotham Ladies ended with 1-1-1 overall record, 4 points and in fifth place on the NWSL standings. In the other hand, the Portland Thorns snapped its two game losing streak and ended the week with 2-0-2 overall record with 6 points and in second place on the NWSL standings.
The next home game for the NJ/NY Gotham FC ladies will be next Saturday June 05, 2021 against the OL Reign, 7:00pm at RedBulls Arena.
