NEW YORK(SMI-WIRE,09.27.15)Whitney Hartstone & Anna Scipioni scored back 2 back in a span of 37 seconds during the second half to knock off Brown, 2-0, in its Ivy League opener Sunday game@ Columbia. The Lions (5-2, 1-0) with today's victory extend their winning-streak to five games, one shy of tying the program record. The Bears’ (3-5, 0-1) goalkeeper Katie Hammaker single-handedly kept her team in the game with a trio of saves off of two of penalty corners 13 minutes into the game. And despite dictating the tempo for the majority of the period, the teams went into the locker room scoreless.

That all changed in the 45th minute when Whitney Hartstone crept in on the weak-side on a penalty corner. Hartstone redirected a hard Maeve Doherty shot off the set-piece for her third goal of the season. Meredith Kalberer was also credited with an assist on the play, settling the ball for Doherty’s attempt off the corner.

The Lions quickly regained possession after the restart and Anna Scipioni used her patented spin-o-rama move down the right elbow of the circle to make it 2-0 moments later.

Brown used a timeout after the second Columbia goal and generated more offensive opportunities, butKimberly Pianucci made two saves down the stretch, including one off a penalty stroke with under two minutes to play.

The clean-sheet was the fourth of Pianucci’s career and the first for the Lions since blanking Yale, 4-0, last season.

Doherty posted a game-high four shots. Columbia held a 16-8 advantage in attempts.
