NEW YORK (SMI-WIRE,12.07.14)After returning from a tough road trip, the Manhattan's men basketball team played like a real defending MAAC champions, defeating Marist 60-38, during their home opener @ Draddy Gymnasium, Manhattan College.The Jasper's offensive attack went to work from the start by scoring the first 12 points of the game & securing a great victory of this young season.
The lead would grow to 25-10 with 3:20 to play until halftime thanks to an 11-2 run. Marist's offense then woke up and finished the half with a 9-4 spurt to trim the deficit to 29-19 at the break.The Jaspers' lead would grow to a season-high 28 on a pair of occasions in large part to a Manhattan defense that held Marist to just 16.7 percent (3-for-18) shooting from the field, including 14.3 percent (1-for-7) from long range, in claiming the 60-38 victory.
Manhattan were led by with two players in double-figures,Emmy Andujar with 15 points ,15 rebounds & career high eight assists. Also another player in double digits was Rich Williams who contributed with 13 points and went 2-7 from outside the arc.
Also during the game Manhattan's defense managed to held the Red Foxes's offensive attack to 19.5 percent (8-for-41) shooting, including 21.1 percent (4-for-19) from deep, while forcing 19 miscues that led to a 21-10 advantage in points off turnovers.
The Jaspers posted advantages of 45-29 on the glass and 30-8 in points in the paint in turning in their most complete effort of the season.
With the win today , Manhattan inproves to 2-5 record & MAAC (1-1)
