PRINCETON, NJ(SMI-GLOBAL-SPORTS-UNIVERSITY NOV. 08-10, 2024)-The Harvard Field Hockey team defeated Princeton 2-1, in Overtime in the Ivy League championship game to claim its 2nd consecutive Ivy League tournament crown on Sunday's Noon game at Princeton University.

With the victory, The #11-Ranked Harvard Crimson punched its ticket to the NCAA post-season tournament to face Syracuse in the first round on November 15, to be hosted by UCONN in East Hartford, Connecticut.


Both teams closed-out its defense line and locked-up a scoreless game for the first three quarters.

The Crimson had the first clear opportunity to open the score within the first few minute of the third quarter, when midfielder Lara Beekhuis on breakaway shot a canon hitting the right post outbounds at 34' mark to remain scoreless.

During the first couple minutes of the fourth quarter, Harvard had another chance to go in front with a penalty stroke when forward Sage Piekarski was brought down by Princeton goalkeeper but midfielder Emily Guckian' shot was stopped by Tiger's goalkeeper Robyn Thompson at 48:31 mark.

With three minutes remaining in regulation time, Harvard opened the score through Kitty Chapple to take 1-0, lead at 57:25 mark. The goal was originated through a penalty corner, defender Bronte-May Brough shot a canon aiming at left goalpost but it was deflected by midfielder Chapple for her first goal of the tournament.   

Princeton answered back with the equalizer through Emma Cashman, her sixth goal of the season and assisted by Beth Yeager with a minute remaining in the game to force the game into overtime.

In the overtime period, Harvard's midfielder Martha Le Huray on a breakaway counter-attack through the left-side field, out-ran few defenders and from inside the circle score with a shot to the left post to seal the the 2-1, win for Harvard over Princeton.  

During the NCAA selection show, Princeton was also selected with a large berth to face Boston College on November 15, at Saint Joseph University.
