NEW YORK, NY (SMI-GLOBAL-SPORTS-UNIVERSITY-MARCH 15-18, 2024)-#2 Seed Columbia University women's basketball game defeated Harvard 63-61, in the Ivy League Madness semifinal with guard Abbey Hsu scoring 22-points, 3-triples and 14-rebounds in the attack at Levien Gymnasium, Columbia University.
With the win, the Lions improve to 23-5, & Ivy 13-1, and will face Princeton in the Ivy championship game Tomorrow for a chance to win its first ever Ivy League tournament title and direct berth to the NCAA tournament at 5;00pm at Levien Gym, Columbia University.
Harvard went in front in the first 5-minutes with 9-4, run with Harmoni Turner scoring three jumpers from inside the paint and Katie Krupa netting a triple from outside the arc for 9-4, Crimson at 5:55' mark.
Columbia's Abby Hsu, Nicole Stephens and Perri Page hit 3-consecutive back to back jumpers to cut the deficit by 2, and Hsu added a triple a minute later to even the game 14-14, and closed out the first frame with the Crimson leading 16-14.
The Lions began the 2nd period with a explosive 12-6, run with Cecilia Collins, Abby Hsu and Susie Rafiu leading the attack by netting consecutive triples while Kitty Henderson adding a jumper for the Lions to go in front 26-22, with 5:40 left in the half.
Harvard answered back with 8-3, run to regain the lead by 1-point and closed-out the 2nd period leading 30-29, at the end of the 2nd frame.Katie Krupa, Harmoni Turner and Gaby Anderson led he attack with consecutive jumpers from inside the paint for a total 8-points in the offensive run.
In the third, both teams kept battling, trading baskets and keeping the game score very close. With the game tie 32-32, and 8:42' left n the frame, Columbia went ahead in the score with a 9-2, run to regain the lead of 41-34, with 5:05' remaining in the game clock. Cecilia Collins and Susie Rafius led the attack with couple layups and a jumper. And in another 7-6, run by the Lions to closed-out the third 48-40, in favor of Columbia.
The Lions led by 7-points most of the 4th period but with Columbia leading 61-53, with :54' left in the fourth period, Harvard went in 5-1, run to pull within 4, with :11' second left in the game. Harmoni Turner hit a jumper and Katie Krupa added a triple to make it 62-58, in favor of Columbia.
With it seem a comfortably lead and the :07' second left in the game , Harvard's Katie Krupa fouled resulting in a FT converted by Fliss Henderson to make it 63-58, in favor of the Lions. Harmoni Turner hit a triple with :02 left but time ran out to seal the victory of Columbia of 63-61, and advancing to the Ivy Madness championship game to face Princeton tomorrow at 5:00pm at Levien Gym, Columbia University.
Princeton were led by Abby Shu with 22-points , 4-triples and 14-rebounds. Susie Rafiu scored 11-points while Kitty Henderson and Cecilia Collins contributed with 10-points each in the victory.
